Re.Pack – Bringing Webpack to React Native

Re.Pack is a Webpack-based toolkit which enables building React Native applications with full support of the Webpack ecosystem. The toolkit allows developers to use Webpack 5 plugins, loaders and support to create advanced mobile applications with React Native. Webpack provides the necessary utilities to bundle, transform or package JavaScript files or any other assets, and Re.Pack makes it all work in React Native.

“Essentially, Re.Pack is a toolkit for React Native applications that works with Webpack. Webpack is a bundler for your JavaScript or TypeScript code, and you use Re.Pack to make that bundle which Webpack generates work with React Native,” explains Paweł Trysła, a Callstack engineer who created Re.Pack.

A quick overview

Re.Pack is a direct successor to Haul, another Open Source project carried out by Callstack. The experience with Haul gave rise to something new – something that will let React Native app developers use everything that Webpack has in store with React Native. This is how Re.Pack was born.

Compared to Haul it has a smaller footprint, comes with a higher level of customization, supports Hot Module Replacement + React Refresh, and all in all, gives a much better developer experience.
