Samsung Smart TV Outage Disrupts Streaming for Thousands Globally

Published On: Aug 01, 2025

Aug 01, 2025 - Samsung Smart TV users worldwide are grappling with a major service outage that has rendered popular streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and Prime Video inaccessible. The disruption, which began Thursday evening and continued into Friday morning, has sparked widespread frustration among users, with over 2,000 reports logged on outage-tracking platform DownDetector.

The issue appears to stem from Samsung’s Smart Hub servers, which power app connectivity and account services on its TVs. Affected users are encountering persistent error messages, including “Server Certificate Error” and “Server Under Maintenance (0-1),” or are stuck on the Terms and Conditions screen during setup. The outage has impacted users across the United States, Europe, India, Argentina, and other regions, with social media platforms like X flooded with complaints.

One user on X posted, “Can’t even watch TV tonight because the damn Samsung server is down,” echoing the sentiment of thousands unable to access their favorite shows. Another user noted, “Samsung servers are down and most of your apps will not work,” advising against resetting TVs, as some who attempted factory resets reported their devices becoming completely non-functional.

Interestingly, some users reported that Netflix continued to function on their TVs, suggesting the issue is specific to apps reliant on Samsung’s network infrastructure. Hulu Support acknowledged the problem, stating, “Our team is digging into behavior affecting Samsung TV devices,” but offered no estimated time for resolution.

Samsung has yet to issue an official public statement addressing the outage or provide a timeline for when services might be restored. The company’s support team has been responding to individual complaints via private messages on social media, but users report long wait times and limited information. The lack of a dedicated outage status page on Samsung’s website has further fueled customer frustration, with many calling for greater transparency.

For now, Samsung Smart TV owners are advised to avoid resetting their devices and to rely on external devices like gaming consoles or cable boxes for streaming and viewing. The outage highlights the vulnerabilities of smart TV platforms that depend heavily on internet connectivity and server uptime, prompting some to question the reliability of such systems.

As the situation develops, users are encouraged to check Samsung’s official channels for updates. The Mobile Indian and other tech outlets are monitoring the issue and will provide updates as new information emerges.
