Singtel and NVIDIA Collaborate to Introduce AI to Singapore and Southeast Asia
Feb 03, 2024: Singtel has entered into a collaboration with NVIDIA through the NVIDIA Partner Network Cloud Programme, bringing NVIDIA’s comprehensive AI platform to enterprises in the region. Singtel’s upcoming AI Cloud, powered by NVIDIA, will be hosted by the Nxera regional data centre business, designed to develop a new generation of sustainable and hyper-connected AI-ready data centres.
Mr. Bill Chang, CEO of Nxera and Singtel’s Digital InfraCo unit, expressed pleasure in collaborating with AI leader NVIDIA to provide AI infrastructure services. This partnership aims to democratize access to AI capabilities for enterprises, startups, government agencies, and research organizations, enabling them to leverage AI sustainably within purpose-built AI data centres.
Singtel’s AI-powered data centre in Tuas, Singapore, scheduled to be operational in early 2026, will be one of the first AI-ready data centres. The facility, with a high-density environment suitable for AI workloads, will operate with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.23 at full load, showcasing its industry-leading efficiency. Singtel is also developing two other state-of-the-art data centre projects in Indonesia and Thailand.
Mr. Ronnie Vasishta, SVP for Telecom at NVIDIA, emphasized that the collaboration with Singtel will facilitate the development of robust AI infrastructure in Singapore and the region. This initiative not only supports the Singapore government’s AI strategy but also empowers enterprises, regional customers, and startups with advanced AI capabilities.
Singtel, with its experience in delivering edge cloud services using NVIDIA AI, has previously trialed GPU services at the 5G@Sentosa testbed since 2021. Singtel’s patented Paragon platform will enable customers to orchestrate, manage, and deploy various networks, AI, and cloud workloads across multiple providers more efficiently and cost-effectively.
The collaboration aligns with Singapore’s national AI strategy, aiming to drive economic development by providing the latest technology to citizens and businesses. The strategy emphasizes the expansion of the country’s compute infrastructure and the development of a specialist pool of AI talent.
