WinZO Secures Delhi High Court Injunction Against Fake Websites, Strengthens Consumer Protection
Jan 12, 2024: WinZO, a leading vernacular interactive entertainment platform, has achieved a significant victory in safeguarding its intellectual property through a Delhi High Court injunction against various unauthorized and rogue websites infringing on its registered trademarks. This legal action aims to protect digital consumers from misleading platforms and enhance WinZO’s commitment to the security of over a billion users in Bharat’s digital landscape.
The Delhi High Court’s dynamic injunction order restrains both identified and anonymous entities from the unauthorized use of WinZO trademarks across diverse platforms. The court has mandated the disclosure of registrant details by Domain Name Registrars (DNRs) and directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs), major online platforms including Meta and Google, and regulatory bodies such as MeitY and DOT to block access to these infringing websites.
Saumya Singh Rathore, Co-founder of WinZO, emphasized the company’s dedication to ensuring a seamless and trustworthy consumer experience in the rapidly evolving digital environment. Rathore stated, “Today, brands have to ensure that they are continuously and closely monitoring the dynamic world of the internet to ensure that there is no misuse of their brand trust by illegal operators to mislead consumers.”
WinZO, with a substantial presence in interactive entertainment and 175 million registered users domestically, holds a recognized position as a well-known brand. The company encourages vigilance among consumers and the public against unauthorized acts and remains committed to leveraging technology for consumer safety on the internet.
In a concurrent tech-led initiative, WinZO collaborated with prominent educational institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D) and others, to launch a cybersecurity program. This initiative aims to develop open-source technology and best practices to enhance defenses against cyber threats, ensuring the security of information and transactions in the digital realm.
As internet and smartphone penetration grows across tier 2 to tier 5 Bharat, WinZO’s online safety initiatives become increasingly critical to combat cyber threats and protect users engaging in digital transactions. The company’s multifaceted approach, combining legal action and educational initiatives, underscores its commitment to consumer protection in India’s burgeoning digital landscape.
