Published On: Apr 12, 2024

Panasonic unveils a major firmware update for its LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting creators by enhancing their shooting experience. The firmware, available for download from April 22, 2024, delivers efficiency gains in production and post-production workflows, addressing key needs identified by creators.

Key Features in Panasonic Firmware Upgrade:

Native Camera to Cloud Integration: The firmware introduces compatibility with Frame.io Camera to Cloud, enabling automatic uploading, backup, and sharing of images and videos via the cloud. This facilitates real-time remote feedback during capture and collaborative editing among production teams.

Proxy Video Recording: A new feature records low-bit-rate proxy files linked with original video recordings, enabling faster delivery from production to post.

Real-time Auto-focus Recognition: Enhancements to the auto-focus system include improved recognition of people, animal eyes, cars, and motorcycles, ensuring highly accurate focusing.

Enhanced E.I.S. Performance: Addition of High mode to E-Stabilization (Video) function and perspective distortion correction improves stability and corrects distortion during video shooting, especially when using a wide-angle lens.

SH Pre-burst Shooting: Introduction of SH pre-burst shooting function enables burst shooting from the moment the shutter button is half-pressed, allowing retroactive burst shooting up to the moment the button is fully pressed.

Panasonic’s firmware update for the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras represents a significant step forward in enhancing the shooting experience for creators. By addressing key needs such as improved production workflows, enhanced auto-focus performance, and expanded creative options, Panasonic continues to empower creators to bring their vision to life with greater efficiency and creativity.
